Place Color Overlays on Images or Text

Place transparent, tinted film over instructional materials OR use high contrast colored backgrounds to add visual contrast to help students with significant cognitive disabilities and/or visual impairments notice and comprehend crucial elements or reduce glare on pages.

How to Implement:

May be used if the accommodation is documented in the student's IEP and follows these guidelines:

  • maintain the integrity of the assessment,

  • avoid leading to or providing the student a direct answer,

  • be used routinely in instruction,

  • reflect the student’s learning styles, and

  • allow a student to respond using a mode that is appropriate for the student.
